Question Lift or No Lift?

Hey all, I'm new here. I have a 03 Disco II that has a terrafirma bumper with warn winch and an original land rover basket rack. Other than these things the truck is currently stock. I'm at 145,000 miles.

This is my daily driver and I am trying to decide whether a lift is for me or not because I'm at a point where I need new tires and shocks.. I go hunting a lot on 2 tracks and logging roads a fair amount, but I don't do any serious wheeling and most of my driving is on pavement. I will occasionally be in 6-8" deep mud or sand. When I am out hunting currently and hit a rock or something it almost feels like my springs compress completely and it can be quite jarring.

I do not want to effect the longevity of my vehicle if a lift might do that. I have heard that it effects torque and gas milage quite a bit.. I am hoping to run this car into the ground with high milage (it has already had a re-seal) I really like the looks of a lot of 2" lifts I have seen. I am also wondering why the OME is so much more than the terrafirma lift? Is one that much better than the other for light use and predominant street driving?

Thanks a lot in advance guys!

And both Terrafirma and OME make great lifts. You can't go wrong with either

The OME vs Terra Firma, some will say that you get a softer ride from OME and Terra Firma is stiffer, it really boils down to what you prefer. The shocks from Terra Firma seem to be good as people with OME coils run them, and they are about half the price of a OME shock. You can run 245/75r16 or 265/75r16 (the more common size) with a 2 inch lift. I have 245/75r16's A/T's with no lift, I get 15 mpg average per fill up, I drive more city then freeway sadly. If you get a mud terrain tire your going to lose some MPG's for sure, roughly 2, as for the lift, I don't think you raising it roughly 2-3 inches will cost MPG's, the truck is already a box, but I could be wrong. With larger tires your low end torque will drop a tad also.

Don't even bother with that junk. If you are going to get a lift stick with TF or OME. I personally like TF, but there are other options out there such as RTE as well.

It does effect resale value. Once it's lifted, you eliminate anybody who wouldn't want a lift as a potential buyer, which I'd guess is the majority of Disco owners.

I personally am not a fan of lifts unless you are going to seriously offroad the truck. It's a little bit like tubbing the back wheel of your 4 cylinder Mustang. Looks sorta cool, but ultimately pointless.

The Discovery was designed to be lifted. Otherwise it looks like a big *** gold cart in stock form.
