Locking Diff on 2003 Disco?
Hi all, I found this 2003 Disco at a scrap yard. Could it possible have a center locking differential from factory? I didn't have a chance to check the transfer shaft... It was wet outside and I had some good clothes on.
What does the High/Low range shifter look like for this model?
From my observation of this 2003, the shifter was pushed towards the right and down. (would this mean the Disco is currently in high range and unlocked diff... right?) Also the emblem diagram that describes the function of the lever has a picture of a drivetrain with a "X" for where the diff should be. Does this emblem indicate center locking diff?
I'm a little confused because this could be a 2004 and the scrap yard marked the production date...
I thought 2003's did not come with diff lock.
Last question.... Could someone post pictures of examples of disco 2 models having and not having center diff lock of late model disco 2's?

All Disco's have a 4 wheel drive shifter for low and hi. However some have CDL and some don't. It was excluded from the 2003 model. You might be lucky and have the nipple on the transfer case for it, but you will most certainly not have the shifter needed to enable it like previous model Discovery's or the 2004 class.
A 2003 should be in permanent 4 wheel high for everyday driving. On mine, you can only move the TC shifter up and down for low, neutral and high. I think being able to move it to the right would indicate that you can lock it. Maybe you could show us a photo of your sticker and shifter?

The easiest way to tell is if you look at the T-case shifter. If the shifter is in a straight line with the transmission shifter, then it does not have CDL. If the T-case shifter is leaning right or left then yes it has CDL. you could also try to move the shifter left or right.
Here's what my CDL setup looks like:

Maybe I should add more depth.
I have a 2001 DII with the "nipple". I'd really like to have a 2004 lever assembly. I'm suspicious that this scrap yard DII is a 2004 not a 2003 like the scrap yard says it is. The reason I think it's CDL is because the lever is tilted to the right.
The scrap yard is 45 minutes away so I don't really want to drive out there if I can figure this out another way. I have the VIN SALTL144X3A774514 if this helps.
It's not like ZGphoto's picture but I'm thinking maybe the 2004 looks different. Anyone have pictures of a 2004 CDL lever???

Thanks. The only way to figure this out is to put on some work clothes and feel around underneath. thanks for your time guys!!!
Yeah, this is why I was so puzzled. about the lever that was leaning to the right. He had those nice cup holders (Which I grabbed) So maybe he installed a new Differential as well? LOL... Regardless... I'm going to have a closer look.
