i'm new to the rover scene but on a rover i,m considring buying on the shifter for the 4x4 it has diff lock stampedon it . do they not come with factory lockers

 

The 'diff lock' on the little stick should really be labelled 'centre diff lock' - it locks the transfer box so you get the same torque to both axles regardless of traction. The factory diffs on a landy aren't lockable without modification - KAM are supposed to be good but I've no direct experience of them as I've never needed them. One trick that does work if you're stranded with one wheel of each axle off the ground and no lockable front or rear diff is this: Put the car in gear/drive and engage low ratio with difflock (if it's a manual transmission release the clutch to start the wheels spinning - it won't move due to zero traction on each axle) gradually increase throttle pressure to bring the revs up and gently begin to apply the brakes with your left foot - balance brake and throttle pressure to avoid a stall and come off the brakes AS SOON as you get proper traction on two wheels on either axle or you're likely to break something in the transmission.

Factory diff lock or CDL refers to locking the t/case for better traction. No you do not have lockers and at $3000 plus for lockers you may want to think about if you need them.
