First post here....

I'm looking to get a used 4WD SUV for use as a weekend fun car...may tow a small boat trailer, minor off-road stuff around the south Georgia marsches, etc. I'm considering buying a 2003 D-II S with 67,500 miles on it. Just doing an visual inspection it looks to be in pretty good shape. As this is the first LR I've considered, I'd love to hear about anything in particular I should be looking for or concerned with as I check this one out (or others, for that matter).


(Edit to add: the asking price for this one is $8,750)

The price is way to low for an 03, usually up around $12,000 to $15,000.
It would need to be checked out by another shop prior to buying it.

 

Thanks...I just got back from driving it. Drove great, sounded great. Under hood looked good (had not been steam cleaned, so evidence of problems would have been apparent), no signs of gasket or coolant leaks. I'm going to see about having it inspected tomorrow...

Feel free to give any specifics I should keep looking for or asking the shop to pay particular attention to.

Call the dealer and give them the VIN and see if it's up to date on recalls and if it has been dealer serviced.

I have the same model you're looking at and I love it. The price is great, barring any issues.

Have it inspected.

 

Will do...they have all service records, and I ran carfax, too, to be safe and it came back fine. I've got the inspection scheduled for 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

(Just called the dealer in Jacksonville....everything is up to date and no open recalls...)

Man, if I could find one that cheap around here I'd buy it right now and turn it into a weekend rock crawler. Speaking of which, make sure you engage the t-case and run it in low gear to be sure all works as it should.

WOW that is cheap, won't find one that price in Idaho. Asking price here would be up around $17,500. Sounds like a good deal to me.

 

Sounding like you may have fallen into a good deal.

 

Update for everyone...

Inspection this morning went fine....they found a minor leak in the power steering from a bad hose...nothing else of importance! I negotiated that minor repair into the deal, so....

For $8,500 I just picked up my 2003 Discovery...looking forward to being a part of the family!
