Default looking to buy!

Hi All,

I am looking at buying my first Rover, and was hoping for some imput from you guys.

here's the add for the Disco I'n looking at:

"Two failed sales have led me to this. Best offer over $ 2500 (parts offer I have from a dealer) by September 14th. If it isn't gone by then I will sadly sell it for parts. I really love this truck so even though I rarely drive it since getting a new truck, since last February (when the inspection was up) I have spent over $ 1800 (new clutch, exhaust from the manifold back, left manifold, one shock and misc. small stuff like idle air control valve and mass airflow sensor (used)) and in the year prior around another $ 3500 (brake pads and rotors, rr caliper, head gasket, power steering, rear drive shaft, and much more).I put much more into the truck than I should have. It will give its new owner lots of value. It hasan aluminum body so there is no rust (except for bumpers and wheel wells)and mechanically it is very strong. Cosmetically it shows its age and useoffroad. It isn't ugly, but it has lots of scratches and is not a show vehicle. This is the SD7 model. Base model with cloth seats and no sunroofs. Not fancy but tough and goes anywhere. 4.0L V8 engine. It does have the rear jump seats to provide 7 passenger seating. I brought the truck back from the US in 2003. Having a 5 speed Disco is so superior to an automatic that you will eitherunderstand or not butif you want to use it offroad there is no comparison. Great fishing or hunting truck. In its past the truck was stolen and written off by the insurance company so ithas a branded title. No effect on the truck other than the fact that I got a deal and so can you.For the money I doubt you will ever find a Disco with so many recent improvements. I expect itwill give the new owner many years of service."

It sounds like a great from the research I have done.....I'm not sure of the mileage as of yet....

any input would be great, good deal, bad deal...buy it, don't touch it! any input at all.

thanks all

jock

It does look rough, but for the price I think it is a good deal depending on the mileage. If it has 250,000 on it then no, 150,000 then hell yeah.
Go drive it, talk to him, let him know that youi have cash, you know that he must sell it, then I would offer him $2,000 cash. He will turn you down, give him your phone number, let him sleep on it. If he doesnt call you in two days call him back, will he take the $2k? Then offer him $2,200, he counter offers, you get the idea.
Remind him that it must be sold by the 14th and that it would be a shame for all the money that hes put into it to go to a scrap yard. That truck has alot of life left in it. If he truly loves it he wont let it go to a salvage yard.
It needs new tires, remind him of that too.

It looks very ruff needs the dash fixed pealing up,
needs a antenna,,frt bumper hit did air bags go off?

It looks like he did the things to keep to going and nothing else.

A 5 speed off road is ok my last 2 trucks where and I had them for 20 years
and would never have thought that a auto was better off road,,, but they are.

What ever you spend on the truck you will spend that and some on repairs.
I like 96's but I think you can get a better truck for $3K or 3500$ much better.

For $2500 170k is not high. My '97 has 174k. These things will last well into 300k range.

You can find one in better shape.
That one most likely is a parts truck now.

retro-170k in the US means 170,000 miles. The "K" is slang for thousand, and in the US we measure in miles, so to me 170k is 170,000 miles, you are in Canada? so you us kilometers, sorry for any confusion.
Because we get people from all over the world it helps us if we know where posters are from.
