i haven’t done any research on the Lr3 but I do like the look as well. It’s a bit more modern and from what I do hear they were very very capable off-road - maybe even more than the disco.
Did the LR3 have any major issues. Such as engine / drivetrain issues ? I’m assuming probably a lot of electrical stuff

maybe more traction than stock for stock but the lack of articulation is a game changer if you are serious about off-roading. They are capable but they make me uncomfortable with how much wheel lift can be achieved or tippy they appear.

@redwhitekat they are pretty capable the problem is the computerized 4 wheel drive system. So on a Disco you select hi/low /cdl and then it is up to you for the most part. The Lr3 is the turn a dial to select mud/snow rock crawl etc. But overall they are pretty durable, the 4.4 liter is the better engine for us North Americans

As with the Disco though you would be buying an aging platform, and it is harder to work on for DIY guys.

The main reason I would consider going that route is I can get one from a the local independent shop who is also a club member, so at least I start in good shape.

I own an LR3 and sorry it's CAN BUS system sucks vs the OBD2 stuff we deal with on the later D1/D2's. LR3's 4.4L engine is great, but it is no where near as basic as the pushrod Rover V8. I can't stand the EAS, the full glass roof, and I find the ride much more firm vs a well setup D2.

I bought my LR3 to replace my wife's H3 and we've honestly yet to use the 3rd row of seats. I honestly should have kept the H3 for the wife. It never broke down, very durable interior, rode excellent, and same MPG (5.3L V8 Alpha). We just thought we'd plan ahead and get a 3rd row vehicle while we could, but honestly the LR3 is my most disliked LR. When parked next to a RRC/D1/D2 it just looks very bland. When parked by other SUV's it looks better, but next to an older LR to me it looks like a box.

If it is loud enough that you noticed it being odd, probably too loud, which is most likely debris in the blower fan cage. One thing that will lead to this is running a long period of time without a plenum filter in place... Not a deal breaker but always good to see if the plenum filter is there, just below the cowl under the hood. Long strip of grey foam going across the whole vehicle. If they don't bother replacing that it can tell you something about the maintenance. I see a lot of pics on here of folks running without them, it isn't unusual, but it does allow all manner of debris into the fan basket.

It's worth noting that the fan motor and basket aren't hard to get to so when it comes time to clean it out it's not a bad job. I had a small piece of rubber or something that got in there, removed it and it ran a lot better (as one would imagine).

Yep the blower is SUPER easy to clean out, and heck lube the one bearing. 4 screws, and 4 plastic fasteners is all that is keeping you from the blower motor.
