Looking for front cover replacement and advice, Britpart aftermarket cover???
Hi everyone,
I’ve recently posted on the p38 subpage looking for advice on getting a Britpart vs a genuine new or seeking a good user front cover.
I’ve recently started an engine rebuild and I’ve run into a front cover oil pump and housing that is completely scored. Hers a link to my other post if interested https://landroverforums.com/forum/ra...70/#post896397
Ultimately looking to see if anyone has any experience with a Britpart front cover or if anyone has a good condition used cover for sale that I could simply freshen up with a new oil pump. https://www.lrdirect.com/err6438-sup...anded-britpart
thanks

A word of warning. The front cover on the Rover engine had a misalignment issue with the pins that were in place. The replacement parts from LR were not centered so that it caused premature front seal and subsequently oil pump failure. All the OEM front covers copied the LR part, so they all have that problem. Check with Atlantic British as they were very good about assisting with the way to correct the problem. Apparently it has been a problem for a while. it involves drilling out the holes where the dowels line up to allow the front cover to be centered on the shaft.
Once done, no problem, but must be done or oil pump failure will occur.

Found this one on e-bay for $80 USD https://www.ebay.ca/itm/126353105076...&segname=11051
I would change the oil pump but otherwise would you say this one is in good serviceable condition?

If going used, one thing to always make sure you do is to clean the oil overflow relief valve and piston on the timing cover.
These engines run on low oil pressure and any sludge and grit build-up on that valve can often cause the piston to stick and the the engine to overheat.
