Default Looking to purchase 1st Discovery

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase my first Discovery. Its main purpose is going to be a vehicle that I can take hiking, biking, camping, etc. I'm looking at a model from 1996 with around 125K. What things should I be looking for when I go to purchase one and what should I be looking to pay? I've seen the price vary quite a bit. Thanks.

What will be using it for, how much wheeling experience do you have and what are the price ranges you are seeing?

It will mostly be used for getting me to hiking, biking, and camping locations along with a bit of minor off-roading. I'm seeing prices of $1500-6000 for 95-98s with 125k miles or so.

Do a search for my thread "what to look for when buying a Discovery"
Like you said the price varies alot depending on your market.
It might be worth it for you to drive a few miles to save a grand or two.

So I'm about the pull the trigger on buying a '96 disco w/ 125k on it in the next 2 weeks. Is this going to be a vehicle that will definitely get me around off road or am I throwing my money away and would be better off buying something newer?

I think it is a good place to start. I have had 6 disco a 1 range rover. My first was a 97 LSE7. Prices on Series 1 disco are about 2-3k if they have been well maintained you should easily get 200k miles out of them.
