Default Looking for Recommendation for Water Pump Brand?

Here's the situation.

Rebuilt D2 HSE 4.6about 2.5 years ago.

Since then my son has put about 16-18K miles on it.

Started to overheat on him a couple weeks ago while at college.

Was losing coolant, visual inspection indicates the coolant is coming from the underside of the water pump -- assuming that like many/all water pumps, it has a weep hole for when bearing is beginning to fail.

Rebuild included a new water pump (won't mention vendor: last time I did that I ignited one heck of a sh#t storm).

Anyone have a recommendation of a particular brand: genuine, gates, britpart, etc.?

Would like to install a pump this time that will last more than 20,000 miles

+1, Airtex is the only water pump I use. Been using them for years and I've never had an issue with one yet. One brand to avoid at all costs is GMB. If someone gives you one...decline!

Airtex sells two versions for the Land Rover. Choose the more expensive one or the less expensive one depending on how long you plan to keep the truck.

I got the cheaper airtex and have had great luck with it (185 at 70 in 100 degree weather, little higher with AC on)

I think the one we installed with the rebuild was in fact a GMB. Ugh.

Thanks for all the positive Airtex recommendations. I am going with that.

I actually thought that those were cheap reconditioned ones, but shows you what I know.

Ordered an Airtex.

Final question: should I just put the gasket on "dry" or should I goop it up with some RTV?

RAVE seems to imply a dry gasket.
