Default Loss of RPM's

2002 Discovery SE, 90,000 miles.

When I'm in park or have my foot on the brake at a set of lights, the RPM's will suddenly drop like the engine is going to die, then picks back up and idles fine. It never dies, just feels like its going to. When driving, it feels fine.

I just replaced all the plugs with Bosch Double Platinum +4 and 8mm Magnecor wires. Could it be a bad coil pack? Any ideas? I do have the purge value code reading right now, could that be it?

I also ran some seafoam through the fuel when it first started to see if there was any gunk build up, but it hasnt done anything really.

Thanks

Rick

Just spray carb cleaner in the throttle body and wipe it out, spray out the idle solenoid. Also seafoam is not the best fuel cleaner use techron in your gas tank. An induction cleaning with Seafoam may help though.

Anyone have a pic of the idle solenoid? I cleaned out the throttle body which seems to have helped a bit. Couldnt see a pic of the idle solenoid in the RAVE manual. Sorry for the stupid question but I couldnt find it. Still learning!

It sits right on top of the of the engine. It's round, about 4" long and has a rubber hoses attached to it, like a T. If you follow the hoses you'll see that they just bypass the throttle body. Just follow the intake and look for the two ~1" hoses, can't miss it.

Here is a picture of that area. See the hose with the red dot, look for the silver cylinder in the middle of that hose, that is the idle control solenoid.
Send me your number and I'll call you and walk you thru cleaning this or any other idle issue.
