Default Sai pump filter removal and replacement

Located to the left (pas side) of the engine and mounted to the fire wall, you will find the SAI pump.

It is secured on by three 10mm nuts to three rubber mounts on a "C" shape bracket.

A small cylindrical vacuum reservoir is attached on a smaller bracket on top and forward of the pump by a 4th 10mm nut which is secured to one of the three SAI PUMP mounts closest to coolant reservoir

Disconnect the hose attached at the bottom of the pump and the electrical connector.

To make removal of the pump easier once everything is disconnected, remove the small canister to the left of the pump which is secured by another 10 mm bolt.

REMOVED

Take a small screw driver and pry the tabs to remove the filter cover.

Remove the old filter, and blow air through the impeller to remove old pieces of filter. Mine was falling apart real bad.

I bought this filter which was the only type available to me. $1.75

It folds out to one sheet 1/4 x 15 x 24

This next part can be done many ways but this is how i did it. I cut several strips about 1 to 1 1/4 inch strips

Then arrange as needed to mimic the thickness of the old filter.

DONE...

Looking at that again I wonder if the foam air filter for a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine would be a better fit, it would all be one piece, just trim the excess.

I never even thought about the SAI. That kind of stuff is too complicated for my brain. That's why I drive a D1.

You mean a filter like this? http://www.muttonpower.com/store/p-1...gs-270093.aspx

That costs about 3-4 times what i paid! I dont think I can lay down that type of cash spike!

It only takes about 25min or less to change out the filter. Probably less if you just remove the filter cover leaving the entire assembly installed so it would be easy to upgrade the filter anytime.

I still have enough filter material to last me about 2 years...assuming the new filter material deteriorates due to heat and requires complete replacement 6-12 months from now.

We'll see how long it lasts.

I meant one like this, you can buy it at your local lawn mower repair/supply shop for about $3.

http://www.lawnmowerpros.com/prodimages/30-909.jpg

If any of you ever worked on a lawn mower you kow the kind of filter that I mean, it is a dense foam and you oil it with clean engine oil and then the oil traps the dirt, you then wash it with soap and water and re-oil when dirty.
Of course I would not oil it for the SAI pump.
