Default Lowering running temp.

Background:

I have an 2003 disco w/ 04' engine. Purchased in the last 4 months. Running temp's were 210-220.

Plan:

To lower my Disco II's running temps down into the mid 190's at their hottest, it does not seem to want cool down that much.

Actions Taken:

Replaced the;

pressure cap;
factory thermostat with a 180 deg. motorad;
Fan clutch with a Hayden Premium
Replaced 03' fan & clutch with an 01' fan to mount the Hayden Clutch

Results:

Temps now hover between 196-208 at all times

Possible future actions:

I have already purchased a replacement radiator. I just have not installed it because when the radiator that is in there looks really nice and could be new.

Ceramic coat or temp wrap the heads.

What do you guys think?

Ditch the motorad 180F for a genuine grey 180F. I never have had good results with any motorad product.

I would have never thought! Could you send me a link to the product your referencing so I can be sure my purchase is correct?

I am looking at the following from Britpart via Amazon as I am writing this:

"LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 1999-2004 THERMOSTAT AND HOUSING SOFT 82C / 180 PEL500110"

I also tried the MR-180 version and the baseline on it was 194 so it had my truck running 194-204. Instead of spending another $80 on the LAnd Rover Tstat, I just went ahead and did all of the inline stuff for the same price. Do a search on "inline mod" if you aren't familiar with the phrase. It might be for you. There is a quite a bit of info on it spread out across the web so don't limit your search only to this site.

I totally agree with Chubbs. I have 3 Discos now. The first thing I do when I get one is the in-line Mod. The second is an ultra-gauge.

Another thing you will want to do is flush everything out really well, and rinse the radiator itself from the inside out. Removing the drain plugs from the block will help even more but I have yet to find the proper socket to loosen mine. Then, replace the red OAT coolant with the traditional green colored type if that hasn't been done already. Its always good to switch the fan and upgrade the clutch like you did. Everytime I flush the system the operating temp drops and I don't get that extra rise in temp for a few weeks until for whatever reason it wants to begin bouncing around again. Hence the drain plugs.
