I want to lubricate the hood latch, door locks, fuel door hnges etc. I was told that I should do it with a silicone lubricant as oppose to WD40.. Whats best...

I think lithium grease would do it as it doesn't run-off like WD40. But I've never done them (I should). Someone will chime in.

 

PB Blaster. It loosened stubborn blots, but also remains on that area unlike many other lubricants.

I would use the silicone. PB and WD-40 are actually penetrants and unless you are trying to remove the hood bolts or hinges you don't want that. Use the silicone spray.

 

Stay away from the penetrating type fluids, the white grease work well but aree a little messy. There are some new synthetic light grease that when put on in small amounts will last forever.

just an FYI. when WD-40 dries, all of the good stuff evaporates. Good for penetrating, but not long term lubrication.
