Stuff happens I guess but $3900 as long as you can fix it for that much and maybe even add some goodies with that money is not bad.

Not fixing it. The front end is pushed into the engine. Will need hood, fenders, front rad support and all the components attached.
Cheaper to find one that needs a head gasket job, just pay for the gaskets, wp, timing chain etc and do it again.

Three grand net to put toward a new DII ain't bad either, especially since you'll now have a parts truck plus all the upgrade goodies. The problem, of course, is that finding a good replacement is getting more and more challenging.

I am pretty certain we will give them the $800 and take the lesser amount, keep the truck and I'll offer the parts. Hint, hint.

If i can find a truck without any rot, I should be ok. I'm amazed at all the sub $2,000 rovers that are out there that only need a head gasket job.

We really want an 01 or an 02, finding a white one is scarce, red, black, green and blue are out, Gray or silver might be a win, and champagne is absolutely out..and I doubt I'll find a viable orange or yellow. I'm about to offer a finders fee.

you would be surprised what’s out there if you keep looking 2-4 times a day on your local ads
and be prepared to jump on it the second you see something you like

discos here in Canada if it’s priced right and in good shape they are sold within 1-2 days

couple years ago I was looking into getting back in a pre 2001 Subaru gc. One of my favourite cars had one 15 years ago wish I never sold it
well after years of looking I was working about 1 hour from home it was Friday 3 pm having a coffee getting ready to go home
looked at the classifieds and 30 min prior one came up for sale 10 min from where I was. A 2000 gc sedan
called the guy told him I’ll be there in 10 min he said I got people coming at 6 to look at it
I said no need I’ll come right now.
Got there this thing was stock not abused and the seller was a mature guy
I bought it on the spot and had caa tow it home
I couldn’t Believe I just bought a stock 5 speed non abused very little rust Subaru Impreza 2.5 rs for $3500

so just look a few times a day and you will get what your looking for

Not too bad...they swapped a bunch of stuff though.

If you see any others, preferably all stock, I'd be interested and I dont mind the drive.

I use craigslist... but have had good luck on vehicles with offerup and after scouring craigslist for weeks a friend told me about it and i found something perfect that weekend. It has an app or you can just use a regular browser.. just another place to check.

Facebook Marketplace has served me well of late. It's where I found my green d2 this summer.
