Default Lucky8 3" TF Lift Kit - 20"RRS Wheels - 33" Cooper Discoverer AT'3

I don't want to hear everybody b**** at me about how horrible 20" wheels are off road. I know, I know, I know. I like the way I look, I still have more sidewall than I did with 255/55/18's, and it rides/drives like a dream.

Erik was about ready to kill me, I grilled him for months about this lift kit and finally decided to just buy it and hope I liked the results. I had never intended on installing a lift kit, nor wheels, but the wheels and tires fell into my lap, and I started to really like the look of the lifted DII's.

So far, I ABSOLUTELY love it! Obviously there's some power loss due to wheel size, but it's less than I expected, and I have this convenient thing called Low Range. The suspension is superb! Ride quality has DRAMATICALLY increased, I have 17" of ground clearance under my running boards, and the install was a breeze. Only complication was removing the 3rd cross member, I stripped two of the bolts and had to torch 'em pretty good before they came out. And yes, I tried liquid wrench, no bueno.

I had to do some minor trimming of the black plastic on the lower front bumper, I made nice even cuts and it's hardly noticeable.

Here's a few pictures of the install, and finished product.

Very happy with my purchase.

It looks far better than I thought it would with the title. Not my style but it's not offensive.

who cares what other people think of your truck. Its yours, its your money. I did not know that this forum was also the fashion police for how ones truck looked. build it however you want. drive it have fun break it and then come back here and ask questions about the best way to fix it. If someone says something about your truck being not the way they think it should look tell them to F off and answer the question or go away.

I also put 20s on with the same lift and couldn't be more happier. It was a nightmare trying to get any information about if they would work. But it looks good. I went with a 275/60r20 with a -27 offset. I was in the mud last weekend and surprisingly it still never got stuck. I also just got back from a trip to south Florida pulling a boat and other than 11 miles to the gallon everything went fine.

I saw your post a while back when you installed these! I like it!
I experienced the same thing, nobody had any idea if it would work, when I asked, people just told me what a stupid idea it was.

These RRS wheels are 20"x9.5" with +53MM offset. I also went with 275/60r20's but the AT3's look a little taller than whatever you have on there.
I'm actually glad I got an OEM with a large positive offset, the axle+hub width on these trucks requires a large positive offset to keep the wheels from sticking out super far. I'm surprised you can turn AT ALL!

I still need to replace several things to get better results from the lift, Bump Stops, Adjustable Pan Hard, Radius Arms, Brake Lines, ABS Extenders, Watts Linkages, Control Arms, Bla bla bla... Maybe in due time, but for now I'll try to avoid crazy articulation and enjoy the nice ride.

Edit 1: I've been curious, those who install 33's on the 4.0 DII's with stock gears must be in for a mighty slow truck... From driving stock 4.0's and 4.6's there's a significant difference! Especially in the low end.

Can you still air down the tires for traction with 20's or is that no longer an option with so little tire and so much wheel?
I've always thought that 20's would make air down almost impossible and extremely limit your off-road capability.

It greatly inhibits your off-road potential. Your likelihood of fouling a tire have increased dramatically (see - 11 tires busted on Land Rover's Trans American Trail trip, 19" wheels)

You probably won't lose a bead, but you can't really deflate to rock-crawl.
