Default lug nut help!!!!

Hi, I can NOT get any of the lug nuts free on my 2003 discovery. I've soaked them ALL with PB blast, used leverage bar, heated one up even...NOTHING. I snapped one rachet, stripped another, tried an impact wrench and have had NO luck at all...PLEASE, am I doing something wrong? and YES i'm turning it in the correct direction as I did get ONE off from the spare and that's it.

Thanks again guys for your help.

Steve

All I can suggest is you take it to a tire shop.
They must be corroded and frozen to the studs.

note put anti seize on the studs once the lugs come off and use a torque wrench

I would try using a breaker bar, position it parallel to the ground then jump on it. Worked for me but my bolts were not welded like yours seem to be. Give it a shot if you have not already.

if a breaker bar doesnt work.... get ready to buy new wheels cuz your gonna have to drill them off and then replace the wheel studs

Yikes. For real stubborn nuts I position the wrench nice and tight and straight on the nut, support the wrenches pivot point with a jack stand and then jump on the other end of the wrench real hard while wearing heavy boots. I've had to pound the wrench on with a rubber hammer if the nuts are wrecked and buy new lugs once it's off.

Default Lug Nuts

I had the same problem, but I did get them off. I used a breaker bar with a 6 foot or so pipe over it - actually it was the handle of a floor scraper, and bounced it (the truck literally bounced) until the lug nuts broke free. Of course if the lug nut covers are mangled, that's another story. The lug nuts are easy to overtighten on these things, and the butt heads at the tire shops do it with impact wrenches all the time. Make it a point to torque them to specs and if you can't guarantee a shop will, immediately do them all over when you get home. It's a shame you can't trust a shop to be careful, but you can't.

Whoever put your lug nuts on last time probably installed them too tight, they should be torqued to 103 foot pound of torque. Go have that shop loosen them and retighten them by hand with a torque wrench.

The first time I take off any lug nuts off of aluminum wheels after being installed by a shop I always need to use at least a 3 ft, 3/4" drive breaker bar and stand on the end. Since lug nuts on aluminum wheels tend to need retightening after a week or so and most people do not know this shops tend to just blast them on hella tight to avoid the lawsuits involved when a tire falls off a vehicle. So either get a bigger lever with a 3/4" or 1" drive or get a 3/4" or 1" heavy duty impact wrench and blast them off.
