Default MAF for 00 and 02 Disco II's

Hello all,

I need to get a couple of MAFs for a 00 and a 02 Disco II. I haven't bought one in a awhile, and want to make sure I get the right one at the right price.

First, BPUTAH is a great place to buy everything, and they have them as follows:

Partsgeek is alot cheaper.

And since I have to buy two, that is a 90 dollar savings plus shipping.

Then I hit up Amazon and BANG.

The comments to the Amazon offering say that the barrel doesn't fit 2003-2004. So I searched the forums here and found a comment that the operative part (that slides in the barrel, kept in place by the security screws) is the same for both the 99-02 and 03-04 models, but that the barrel diameter is less for the latter. I further found out that a VW part (also Bosch) may be exactly the same part I need.

I only need to replace the innards. What should I buy? If it is just the part that slides in the barrel, then maybe I can find that locally. Any guidance?

Best,

Charlie V

I'm not sure on this, but I am very interested in the LOW price. I hope someone can chime in for help. (watching this thread to see what happens)

Hmm. Looks like I'll be the test bunny on this one. Haha. I'll post what I learn.

At $33 it was a no brainer,I was more than prepared to loose $33 if it was no good,so ordered from Amazon last week, arrived in a few days.
Read the link about the wrong size, however I found it was just a tight fit,so I did not need to swap over the electrical plug part.
Took the truck for a 20 mile run and it seems to work perfect.
The lean codes have gone as well.
Only down side is the ultragauge is now reading correct MPG--
Ok it's a made in China copy, even has the same code stamped on the side as the Bosch, but am afraid money is money, and you need it to keep a Disco running, the MAF and money.

Got mine yesterday. I'll post pictures and report install results as soon as I get my overalls on. It is raining of course.

UPDATE:

The MAF fits and works on my 2000 Disco II

Update II:

A look inside the new one (left) and old, stock, one (right).

It fits. No issues.

Ran the truck for a bit. No codes. Drove it. No problems.

To my list of amazing finds (30 dollar A/C compressor and 20 dollar Power steering pump, both of which have worked for a year and are still strong), I think this 33.50 Amazon MAF must be added.

Best,

Charlie V

Default Bad mass air sensor??

Hi there guy's... I'm running into a problem with my disco.... the truck is not a daily driven but sometimes i do drive it all the time...... So i went on a 80 mile drive the other day and it trow me a code. bank 1 and 2 too lean, engine was running fine that day..I clear the codes and park for 3 day, last night i crank the engine went to my mothers a 5 mile drive, park there for 5 mine. got back on the truc and drive home but on my way back i start feeling a missfiring loosing power and then the idle was terrible. i hook the obd2 live scaner and keep driving. the fuel system bank 2 was open and the down stream 02 sensor went flat to 000 values..... I was thinking, i was running the engine with/out AN AIR FILTER. so maybe the maff got dirty or some moisture, so i clean the maff with maff cleaner and the engine keep running like that after a 30 mmin drive. the scaner shows reading the mass air normal.... i'm lost.... I have runn into this problem before but the truck cure by it self. one day it was raing so hard the water enter thru my snorkel on the hwy and give me the same issue and 2 days later was fine... And 2 days ago rain here so i was thinking that it cut be the same problem. something got wet...

Could be MAF, but cleaning them, IMHO, doesn't work. I've read that the element in the MAF is heated from the moment the ignition is turned and it takes a considerable time (like overnight) to fully cool; if you put MAF cleaner on it, it will crack if hot.

I have had similar problems and they all cleared up when I replaced the MAF and the front O2s. If you know someone with a similar vehicle and can swap MAF's, that is a good way to test. If they are really nice and you can swap O2s, you will know for sure. The MAF I got, mentioned in this thread, fits and works perfectly and is super cheap. I think the front O2s are Bosch 15175 (check, that's going from memory, but I did just replace them about a week ago).

Best,

Charlie V

EDIT:

Just noticed you have an 03 Disco II... triple check the O2 part numbers (I have the 4.0 in a 2000 Disco II) and I think the Amazon MAF barrel doesn't fit your intake hose... but the MAF element does. The Amazon description is/was wrong in that the barrel fits my intake hose but not yours. You can still use the element though and unless you broke the barrel there is no need to replace it. If replacing just the element you will need one of those retarded security torx sets.
