Default MAF cleaner and results

So the PO had a k and n air filter installed and it ended up running rich due to oil on brand new MAF. I thought the maf was after market bc the PO told me that but it was Bosch. I kept getting p0175 and p0172 running very rich. Terrible mileage even for a rover 10.7 on ultra gauge, babying it. Used the CNC MAF cleaner around 8 bucks and sprayed about 2/3 can on it and let it dry for at least an hour before reinstalling it. I have had about 35 miles on the truck since then and a lot of short trips and no codes. And mileage avg went up .2 already. Just letting people know in case they have this problem. I went the cheap route and it worked for me at least.

Time to buy a replacement MAF, go to British Parts of Utah for a decent price, do not buy after market or generic MAF's cause they rarely work on our D2's.

I talked to previous owner apparently he tried after market it sucked so he took it back and bought a Bosch. So the k and n sounds like the culprit. I am going to see if the codes come back and if they do I will clean again put stock air filter and see what happens. If codes repeat again then buy the MAF. Cheapest to most expensive.

Don't waste your time, your MAF is dead, cleaning it again will do nothing and yes use a factory, not aftermarket paper filter so this won't happen again.

FWIW, not too long ago I had almost identical problems as what you're describing. I wasn't aware of the forums at that time, and was interested in trying the least expensive troubleshooting techniques first. So I got a can of CRC MAF cleaner, followed the instructions to the letter, and reinstalled the MAF. Codes cleared and the truck ran great. Almost 4k miles later around town, on long road trips, and on trails, I still don't have a single issue and haven't thrown a single code. I will almost always defer to Mike and the other experts, but I can say from personal experience that cleaning a MAF does not always mean you've killed it. Maybe I got lucky and maybe a new MAF is in your future. But I certainly wouldn't be placing an order quite yet...

I clean my MAF every time I change the air filter, same thing with my wifes Sedona and my mothers Escape.
No problems.
Just make sure you use MAF cleaner and nothing else.

Kind of unecesary but at least with a D1 you can get away with it.

People on the AULRO forum talk about doing the same thing with their D2, and no one complains about it eating up their MAF.
