Default Possible MAF Issue? (Codes P0171, P0174, P0734)

Hey All,

I was just reading on a separate thread that Codes involving "lean" and a transmission fault point to a MAF Sensor issue... Well, I just got my code reader last week and finally got to driving the D2 Today and I found the following:

P0171 System too lean, Bank 1
P0174 System too lean, Bank 2
P0734 Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio

DiscoMike, you mentioned in this other post that these types of codes point to MAF Sensor issues, how does the P0734 relate? I am simply interested in understanding it better.

Also, Is this a scenario where it calls for replacement or some other type of service to be done to check the MAF more thoroughly?

When the MAF has failed part of the signal that the tranny computer depends on is now missing so, as in your case, you will throw an 734, tranny out of ratio code and it won't in fact shift correctly.
Buy a new MAF from British Parts of Utah, best price around for the correct NAF.
