Maintenance on 2001 Disco SE
Hello all!
I'm putting together a list for my initial maintenance on my Disco. Since I do not know the past maintenance record, I thought I would go back in time to the 45K maintenance schedule (it currently has about 48K miles). Besides the following (see list below), what else should I inspect/service or replace? Also...is their any wear features on the serpentine drive belt I should be aware of? I thought I would also replace the air filter, transfer gearbox oil, transmission fluid and transmission filter just so I know it is done. Thanks in advance!

RE: Maintenance on 2001 Disco SE
I have a few more miles on mine than you do.
Bought it a year ago at 102K. Now at 113K.
Immediately replaced the U-joints with greaseable one's.
Did Mike's 60K service. The Tranny (new filter & flushed), Transfer Case, Engine& Differential's are now all on Mobil 1 Synthetic's. Picked up about 1mpg.
Pulled the plugs, the PB4s were shot. Probably original. The center electrode was almost gone, put in new plugs, it is a whole new truck!
Just changed the front rotors and pads. The rotors were probably the originals as well. Were a bear to remove. Lots of PB Blaster and finally some heat did the job. Installed new drilled and slotted rotors. Stop's much better now. Doing the rear rotors this weekend. Has never let me down!
Now if I can only figure out why the radio doesn't work!

Disco Mike,
It is an '01...specifically built 04/01.
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Style Definitions table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:"; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Also, CCROVERSE01 brought up another issue I was curious about, the brakes. Can the rotors be re-surfaced or do I have to buy new ones every time I replace the pads? The Land Rover dealer wanted like $750 per axle (and insisted that I had to buy new rotors every time)! I'm pretty sure I can do it myself, but I was wondering if the rotors had a minimum thickness before it was not wise to re-surface them and buy new ones.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what happened in my last post so I', trying again:

You can't turn used rotors, and yes they must be replaced in pairs, they should wear equally. You also shouldn't have the new rotors turned as it will usually remove too much of the surface and they will wear sooner. You can do the job yourself, do you have the RAVE manual? You should get through two sets of pads before needing new rotors. Here are the service limits.

Replacing the rotors and pads is not hard, if they are not RUSTED solid like mine were. You can get a standard kit from someone like Atlantic British for less than $250 per axle, or upgrade for a$$$ more. Definately less than the STEALER!
There are several sites on the web that show how to do it. I think one of our members Urban Panzer? at http://www.discovery2.co.uk/and also here: http://www.muddyoval.com/. Good luck and enjoy your ride!
