Default Major fluid changes

I am planning on changing most of the fluid start with Oil and Transmission. then tackle others. I dont want to do them all at the same time in case issues I can track down.

Disco Mike had a list I followed for sometime now.

I would like to make some changes like going back to normal oil instead of Synth T6. Synth T6 was great but all synth causes small leaks specially Mobile1.

Here is Mike's list

https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...service-29020/

Can anyone shed some light on this? improvements, experiences ?

Thanks

DiscoMike is questionable at best on a good day, but that list actually looks pretty solid.

I agree with the oil filter recommendation, K&N 3001 or Mobil 1- 301 are larger than OEM filters, which is a good thing. Both K&N and Mobil 1 are the same filter, no difference other than the K&N has a nut on the end.

Go with Shell Rotella 15w-40 conventional if you want to cease using the T6.

I agree with his recommendation for Valvoline DexIII is good, however I run Castrol Transmax Dex/Merc in mine personally.

Also agree with the gear oil, we live in Texas, so use 85w-140. I recommend Lucas brand. For both rear ends and transfer box.

I have always used Wix 51515 and had no issues.
Transmission - I may take your advise. many write ups calls for up to 7 quarters with filter change. I hate to keep going back to stores.
Rear ends and transfer box I used Valvoline Synthetic 85/140 in the past- do you know how much 85w-140 i would need for both?

Thank you Street Wolf. That was funny about Disco Mike. I have seen many jokes about him good and not so good.

I usually buy 7 quarts of fluid when doing a transmission drain and refill, and usually don't use it all.. So that's a safe number to buy if you don't want to make multiple trips, and could have some extra left over for a rainy day.

As far as the 85w-140 fluid goes, it's two each. Two for the front, two for the rear, two for the transfer box.

Disco Mike means well, but. :]

X2 on the M1-301. Really good filter that I personally use.

Street Wolf- thanks for mentioning that you use Castrol Dex/Merc because I was on the fence about it for mine. Amazon has it for $18 for a 5 quart jug, so I think I'm gonna jump on that.

I still have some Valvoline MaxLife ATF left. I am going to try to fill the rest if any needed. Just to make sure.

As Street Wolf said used the same one. because half of the fluid i can't drain with conventional method.

Glad to hear it, sounds like a good plan to me. I've been running it in mine for about ten years now.
