Default max tire size on 18" wheel with NO LIFT?

So what is the largest tire that can be installed on the factory 18"x8" wheels on my Disco II with no lift? I am looking to reduce the open wheel well look that my 255/55/18's have. Pics would be AWESOME!

I'll post pics later, but I ran 265/60/18s before i put the lift on for quite a while, and I didn't run into any issues rubbing or anything. Even in twisty situations, I had no rubs.

Good inquiry... I am not ready for new rubber yet, but when I do I will be looking for a little bigger tire.
My thought is to soften the ride with a little more sidewall. Think that is the correct rational?

You are correct. I noticed a little difference. Not much, mind you, but a little. It also helps when the diameter of the tire is actually too big to fit between those smaller bumps, effectively ironing them out a little bit.

I don't have a lift on mine, and I went with BFG Rugged Terrains 265/60/18s after talking to wreckdiver and him saying he didn't have a problem with rubbing. He was right too, they fit perfect, look great, and drive so much better than my stock tires did.

The only fitment issue is if you get the matching spare, and then you'll have to air it down to like 35lbs for it to fit without hanging on the bumper.

I rubbed with 265/65/18 sometimes and when under compression offroad the rear would sit on top of them.

Probably close to fully compressed with no lift 265/65/18

Thanks Madlands, I was just going to suggest those tires. I recently discovered that they are awesome in the snow. I don't really have to worry about snow till it hits the bottom of the doors. And they work great on just about everything else.

Oh, and some modifying on the spare tire carrier and you can make the spare fit no problem. I'm just running the factory size spare for now. It's not a big enough difference in size that it would cause a problem. But a full size spare is coming soon anyway.

I've thought about "flipping" the spare mount, but I don't really want it covering anymore of my back glass. It just brushes off a little dirt when I open the rear door.

Glad to hear that about the snow. With what snow we got here in Arkansas I didn't get to try them out in it. It's been in the shop getting a Range Rover 4.6 put in.
