Hello everyone,
Just wanted to get some input on this. I have a 96 D1 and have always liked the defenders 90 or 110 i love the classics. I settled on a Disco when I realized how hard it was to get your hand on a DEF at a reasonable price. And realizing it was the basic same power-train figure it was the best of both. But nope I Still want a defender and after looking at the LR UK site the new ones are really nice!! So some questions for everyone . If you were going to buy a defender what year would it be and what would a good price be. Also does anyone know of plans to sell them in the states or how hard it is to import one?

US import laws will not let you import a car that is less than 25 years old into this country...in one piece.
Soooo, if you were to buy a Defender from France lets say, because they drive on the same side of the road as us, you could park it in your pole barn, wait until it was 25 years old and then put a plate on it.
There were only 500 NAS Defenders (of each variety) sold in the US, so they are expensive.

Yes from Canada, it used to be well practiced here in MI because of the exchange rate, a $5000 USD car could be had for $3000 CAD, a trip to the dealer and $100 later the speedo and odometer were now in miles not KM.
But then the USD sank like the Bismark and now it is not worth the gas to cross the bridge.
Canada and the US are so close they are almost twins, same emissions laws, not like California emissions but like Michigan emissions, loose but still within Fed guidelines.
In Canada the car must be 15 years old before you can import it.
But now wait a minute, I know what you are thinking, you still cannot bring a French LR into Canada and then into the US.
It must have been originally sold in Canada before you can bring it to the US.
So a Chevy Impala that your French Canadian grandfather had before he died...no problem.
The Defender that you bought on e-bay and had shipped to Toronto...no way.
