Default Mild Rumble at idle

Hey Folks,

New to the Message Board, Just got a quick question..... On my 2002 LR Disco 4.0L SD 69K Miles at idle usually routine stops at Stop lights and such I notice a mild rumble every bout 10 secounds or so, it is very interminetent and mild. Now the RPM's don't change just a little rumble like a hic-up. Any Ideas on what it could be, throttle sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter?

Now keep in mind the truck is babied with 93 oct and just had a fresh Synthetic Oil Change.

I have the same problem on my 98 disco. It runs smooth, but will haveextremely mild rumbles and hiccups as you described that can be only felt through the steering wheel at idle. Iv'e tried everything, been doin it since I owned it. I run a very clean fuel and intake system, so it's got me. I'll be interested to see where this goes.

Possibiltys would be a failing cat, secondary air pump, abs pump, ACE pump or an SLS pump.

Well I just replaced the cats so that eliminates that. Which of the others could apply to a Disco I Mike, all of em?

I bet you didn't know the cats were still under warranty??
Yes, the ABS modulator is what I should have said.
You may need to crawl under the truck and listen for the noise while some one else starts the truck and runs the idle.

All Rover cats are covered by either a state or federal warranty that will go up to 8 years or 80,000 miles this is requires in all states. They also cover fuel pumps gas tanks and depending on the state you live in some other componets are also covered.
This is spelled out in you warranty book that comes along with your owners manual.

98roverguy has a 98..........1998 + 8 = 2006. out of warrany.....(i'll bet he has over 80K on it too...)

I knew about the 8/80, just thought you knew a loophole to extend it. Trust me, when mine failed, I read every page of the warranty book. But, with 140K, not much chance of replacing them ....

Ya I checked that before I replaced em. However I'm still under 80K at around 75K, low for a 98. It will stay low as work is only 1 mile away and I plan on getttin a scooter! lol. I ruined my cats from a warped head job, remember that fiasco? Well, I think I'll deal with the hiccups instead of spending over $2K on an abs modulator (if in fact that is the problem)... okdiscoguy does yours run smooth at idle or do you have similar? Mike, how does the modulator effect the idle? Is it a vaccuum sort of thing? Thanks. (dont mean to highjjack the thread).
