And, a 1 1/16th socket is so much easier to find.

Hmmm,
DIIs use METRIC wheel nuts and DIs use imperial sizing therefore a 27mm socket is gonna fit better than a 1 1/16". A D1 on the other hand....

H'mm my D1 had better fit with a 1-1/16 socket for a lug wrench...
Ahh who knows about the metric Vs standard Vs SAE... I recall the Pontiac Lemans from the 90s (yes that egg looking thing based off of the Opel Kadett) had a mish-mash of bolt and screw sizes...

all my tools are metric,,,

i cant remember the last time i used anything standard.
