Wanted to get the opinion of the forum on something I read. I have a misfire on Cyl 5. I also had a leak from the valley pan so I figured I would tackle that and replace stuff as I went. So new gaskets all around, un-bypassed the TBH, new plugs, new wires (STI). Rebuilt the fuel injectors after a thorough cleaning in a ultrasonic cleaner. Started it up and got P0305 and P1319. Fixed the P1319 by filling up the tank, but still getting P305. Pulled the plug and it looks good, and did a pressure test and good there too.

Reading through threads, it was mentioned that someone had a similar issue and after replacing just about everything, it ended up being the catalytic converter. So I looked at the exhaust manifold and it would make sense because cyl 5 exhaust is the closest and a straight shot from the cat. I'm pretty sure that the cat is bad...there is definitely a rattle after a whack with a hammer and I have about 200k miles on them.

So my question is what is the best way to go to replace the cats? Prices look crazy right now...cheapest y-pipe with cats I found is $480. I remember seeing them for under $300 not too long ago. So should I go with new y-pipes or generic cats from a muffler shop?

Also, would like some thoughts on my assumption that the cats are causing the misfire.

Weird unless it’s clogged or something maybe swap the coil see if that’s the problem. I bought the ypipe from eBay a couple years ago for 300 cdn. Maybe check there or someone parting out a disco
also I had trouble in the past with a bad fuel purge valve sticking open. Causing the disco to run bad and cause misfires

 

Now that is interesting. I had a clicking coming from the engine for a long time. Never really bothered with it, but I eventually found out it was the fuel purge valve. It had a fast click that sounded like valve tap. Anyway, I haven't heard the clicking since the misfire. For $35, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

 

Not the purge valve. Tested it last night and with no current it was closed, with 12v it was open.
