Default Misfire and no codes?

04 Disco2
Lots of new engine parts installed, including plug wires.
Start up and runs, but is missing on one cylinder, and won't idle.
I hooked up the Hawkeye, and there are no codes, not for anything.
I have an exhaust leak now that I didn't have when it last ran. The coupling in front of the muffler. Top bolt is corroded out, causing the leak. Bottom bolt only is holding both sections of pipe together. I'm in process of fixing that too.
That exhaust leak is after the cats also, so it shouldn't affect idle.
I'm about to take SAI out of the way, to double check sparkplug wire routing and connections.
Is it possible to have sparkplug wires in the wrong locations, but still get no trouble codes?
I don't know what else could cause a miss without codes.
Thanks for any help

Start with checking the wires, it's easy to get these crossed @ the coils. Also be sure they are seated in the coils and on the plugs, especially if you used some dielectric grease on the boots. Good Luck!

Thank you sir, again!
Those are the diagrams I used putting it together.
I had to remove a couple wires during reassembly, and it was late, so I'm pretty confident that I just have a couple wires crossed.
It'll be one night this week before I can try and fix it.
I was just curious if anyone had ever had a misfire from crossed wires, but got no codes at all??
I was happy when I hooked up the Hawkeye got no present or stored codes though.

Same problem.
Cranked it last night with the hope I was done.
New oil pump, lifters, pushrods, rocker shafts, timing chain, injectors, spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, all gaskets, fixed exhaust leak.
Now it has a miss.
I'm positive the plug wires are in the right locations, and they were all along. They are also connected properly to the coil packs and plugs.
I cannot belive there are no codes!
I have a Hawkeye. I am at a loss right now, and have too much time in this thing. I'm ready for it to sit and rot now.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I am also positive it is timed right at the timing chain.
I aligned the 2 timing marks correctly by the manual, then turned the engine over with a breaker bar (spark plugs out) at least a dozen times. The timing marks remained in the correct position.
I did all work with the battery disconnected, and it is fully charged. Fortunately, removing the upper intake is easy, but I'm not thrilled about doing it again.
I have to be missing something obvious, but the no codes, not even the obvious misfire, has me scratching my head.
Yes, it ran smooth before, so I caused a problem somewhere.
Any ideas? Help, please.

Temperature gage light is on, and the temp needle will not move. It stays down in the same position as when the key is off.
All other gages work.
No engine, abs, lights on dash.
Everything else seems to function as it should.
I'm dreading chasing an electrical gremlin in this thing.

The one thing you don't seem to have mentioned is new coils. Did you try that?

No, as there was no misfire before replacing the above mentioned parts.
I hate to throw money at it to try and fix it.
All I can think is that wire somewhere in the harness got moved, cracked, broken, grounded somewhere.
This post was a long shot, but I hoped that maybe the no code misfire may point to something common on a Disco.
Oh well, thanks anyway.

I have read before about the engine coolant temperature sensor wires getting pinched under the alternator and causing all kinds of problems.

Sixpack, a tip for the future.

Never replace too many parts all at once before testing as it is difficult to figure out what has made the engine change, yep I know, easier said than done. Always test as you go along where possible as it might also be defective parts albeit they are new.

You put new plugs and wires on. If the coils aren't completely up to snuff, they may not like the new parts if they have a slightly different resistance. Just because it was working okay before doesn't mean that it will continue to work after you replace a bunch of parts.
