Default Missing Front Drive Shaft

Did my first oil change on my latest rig, 2004 Discovery SE7. Only to discovery the Front Drive Shaft not present. I know how to get and in stall one but the bigger question is WHY?

Do these fail and people simply pull them?

They are known to fail and bust a hole in the transmission oil pan.

I would guess it was making noise and so they removed it and never ended up replacing it.

Not a Gold 04 with a blackout on the hood is it?

Previous owner was probably quoted 600.00 for a new one. Decided = nah CDL lock n sell it.

On the plus side it means you have a centre lock! So that’s great news.

Default going to try some tests

I want to make sure there isn't any other flaws that made them remove the shaft.

Thanks for all the prompt replies!

Stefan

Is the diff lock light on in the dash?

There could be some more serious reasons as to why PO removed the driveshaft... blown front diff, axle, center diff spider gears blown (causing it to be locked in CDL), among others

Is the hi-low shifter pushed to the left or right?

Get under the vehicle and make sure the two CDL switches are plugged in and working, the cable is attached, etc. I'd want to make sure I could unlock the transfer case before putting in a front D/S

I keep it pulled and in the cargo area for the trails. I could get the discovery sideways in the rain with 31” wheels, pretty interesting.
