Missing Water

Sure you could have an internal head gasket leak. Very common in engines that have been overheated or under maintained. Get your coolant system pressure tested. Look at your oil fill cap and your dip stick. Is there coffee colored gunk on them? Does your truck smoke and run rough for a few minutes in the morning until the engine is hot?

Stop driving your truck till you can get it tested as mentioned above, if not you could toast that engine an then your looking at buying an engine that you really wouldn't have needed.
Once you find out the cause, get back to us with what the estimate for the repair will be so we can make sure you don't get over charged.
By the way, do not go to a dealer for this work, find a small shop.

thanks for the direction guys, that is just my luck. I'm just trying to sell it as it is an extra-extra vehicle and the missus is starting to mention too many vehicles around. Now I'll probably have to dump a bunch into it. I have a pretty good European-only place down the street that has always been honest with me, so I'll have them check it out and give me an estimate. thx
