Default Model Comparisons

I've searched the forum, but did not see a definitive model comparion.

I am looking for a new Disco...

Leaning towards a '04 HSE, but I don't know the difference between the SE and HSE.

I'm replacing my hail beat '99. It has ACES, so I'm not sure what to expect in a vehicle without it. Am I going to be disappointed in handling on the pavement?

Any guidance on the difference between models would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Aaron

Could be you will be dissapointed without the ACE since you have already had one.
HSE is just slightly upgraded, what are you planning to do with it and what features are you specifically looking for?

Where are you located and are you buying yours back from the insurance company? How many miles were on your '99 when it got pounded and what condition is the rest of the truck in (wheels, tires, tranny, transfer case, interior parts, electronics, etc...?) I know quite a few people on different forums would be interested in it as a trail truck even with a salvage title. If not, the parts may be worth more than what you could buy it back for if it's worth your time and effort to part it out. The hood alone is probably worth $75 in just scrap. Food for thought

Unfortunately I don"t get out (trails) as much as I'd like anymore. Used to hit the trails in my old FJ-40. Disco sees 99% pavement, so I guess I'm more about creature comforts these days.

Never thought about the hood as scrap aluminum...

I am leaning towards buying back from insurance and possibly replacing hood. One of the parts places I was led to has them for reasonable price.

Mechanically it is a good vehicle. 104,500 miles. I just put a new water pump on it. Tires not all that long ago. Overall in good shape. I've been getting ABS like lately on occasion, but I haven't had the time to investigate. Brakes and rotors were replaced a year ago. 2 new O2 sensors are in, 2 more sitting ready to install. Does have an issue in the evap system, I keep getting check engine light, but smoke checks good. Replaced cap no joy.

CD changer jammed on me a while back. I took it apart to get CD's out and have never fully re-installed it. Does anyone listen to CD's?

Hood took brunt of damage. Roof has some dings, but not as major as hood. There's a ding or two in each front fender, but not enough to bother me.

I'll probably keep it and continue to look for a '04 HSE that I like, then put it up for sale.
