Default Mojave road trip

While visiting my folks in New River, AZ. (north of Phoenix) I met up with some AZLRO guys and ran most of the Mojave Road last week. Here are my pics I took along the way.

That would be a Land Rover Forward Control. Old military vehicle they built a while ago.

I'm going to Phoenix the end of this month. Don't think my Rover is quite set up properly to do that trip yet but in the future I will be ready. Looks like a blast.

I was thinking more of not having a good way to carry extra fuel or my camping gear. I'm sure as long as I keep fuel in the truck it will make it there and back without a second thought.

I dont know how long that road is, but if you had a roof rack you could mount Jerry can's full of fuel to it.

That is a Pinzgauer, not made by LR. However there were some forward control vehicles LR did make. The road itself is pretty easy. You could probably do it in a stock vehicle, but the front bumper might take some hits. Without the SD rack this trip would have been very difficult. Luis, the guy in the silver Disco, had 25 gallons of fuel on his roof. They were in between the factory cross bars, and he had the extension rails too. Since his cans were plastic it was ok, but with metal jerry cans you can't let them rest on the roof itself.

The book "The Mojave Road Guide" by Dennis G. Casebier is a must to take along the road. The book says take gas for 200 miles, but depending on how you drive, stopping for pics with the engine running, and other diversions an extra 10 gallons is a must. I drove the whole time in Hi range/3rd gear. The book covers the entire route to 132.9 miles in the book.

Where did you get the camera mount for your windshield and how much was it?
Will your cam corder fit on it?
