Default Montreal in January

We are planning a drive from NYC to Montreal in the first week of January. 300 miles, about 6-7 hours, so says the maps 'App'.

Is this a foolish venture considering the potential weather up there? Anyone have knowledge of those parts?

I live 300 miles north of Montreal, and drive there often for work. It can be dry asphalt all the way, solid ice, or anything in between. Winter tires are mandatory in the Province of Quebec from November to March, for cars with Quebec tags. So you don't have to have them, but you can be sorry if the conditions are bad.

Montreal is at a lower latitude than Minneapolis, so it's not the Great White North with polar bears and 10 foot snow drifts, but like driving in the State of New York you have to be prepared.

On ice, I think the Disco needs all the help it can get because of its mass and high center of gravity. Only problem is with stock alloy wheels, a set of good winter tires will cost somewhere around 1600$ Canadian dollars.
