I have a 2001 Discovery 2 SE 7. 140000 miles. Had head gaskets done about 1000 miles ago, heads sent off to be machined and a valve job done. It has been running fine until just the other day. It started right up I drove it for about 10 feet and it died. It would not start back and acted like the battery was dead. I did not think it was the battery but tried to jump it off anyway. The battery cables became very hot while trying to start it. I thought maybe the starter was bound up or something. It would turn over very slowly sometimes and sometimes nothing. Well it finally started, idled rough and the oil light was on. I give it just a little gas and it sounded horrible. Sounded like pure metal on metal inside the motor knocking and carrying on. So...I am pretty sure something bad happened in the motor. It is at a shop right now waiting for a diagnosis. My delima is what to do? I dont want to sink another 5 to 6 grand in it for a motor. It is black with good tan interior, black powder coated wheels, brush guard, ladder on the back. In very good shape over all. If I were to sale it as is what could I expect to get out of it? I am not interested in parting it out myself. Just trying to get opinions and ideas please. Thanks in advance.

 

a non running 2001 needing a motor with 150k ? under a grand

 

i concur 500 to a thousand.

 

If it was ragged out I would say dump it...otherwise I would put a Cannibal or GPR rebuilt motor in it
