All said and done though Rover's dont get that bad MPG considering that it is a 6,000lb SUV with full time four wheel drive with a underpowered V8.
We get 22 on the highway and 12 around town and we are happy with that. Less when we pull the trailer of course.

The first full tank of gas with my '01 Disco2 (purchased 6 weeks ago) got me 224.7 miles. Those were all city driving, but the last 60 miles were on the highway. That equates to about 9mpg in the city. I don't do enough highway driving to get a good idea what that economy is like.
My 03 gets 19 MPG on the highway whether loaded with people and stuff or just me in it. I used to have a 95 Tahoe and the best I could get with it was 17 MPG. I've always been happy with my Disco's MPG, given the type of vehicle it is.
A full time 4x4 will most times get less mpg's than a part time
4x4 so its apples and oranges.
I was out this weekend in west Texas and was keeping up with
most people, 80mph mostly but my GPS said max speed was 95mph on big hwy's and got 16.9mpg with 93octaneandOutLaw octane booster.
Its great withoutthe corn fuel.
