Default My 180 Thermostat Experience...

In another thread I mentioned replacing the electric AC condenser fan which was seized. Today I had the coolant system flushed, replaced with Peak Long-life mixed to 50/50, Water Wetter and the 180 thermostat. Here are my quick stats afterwards...

Sunny and 75 Outside
60mph 188 with AC
40mph 190.5 with no AC
60mph 186.8 with no AC
Sitting still 5 min 201.2 no AC
Sitting still 5 min 194 AC

I am assuming the temp dropped when I was sitting still because the electric fan kicked in when the AC was switched on?

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the results. Much better than I was getting prior to the flush and 180 thermostat installation. I suppose there's no way to really tell if the Water Wetter made much of a difference seeing as it was added post-flush. Guess that's a win for the "snake oil" but I'm feeling much better about my temp management on her.

This is the same temp range which I saw after I switched to the geniune LR 180-deg thermostat.

Trucks will be different, because of the internal condition of the radiator, so variations will be there. But it beat the pants out of 221F.

I have identical temps w/ the Genuine Land Rover 180stat. Expect, while sitting still at idle w/ A/C off temps rise to 199.4 then drop down to 194.0.

My Stats. '01 DII w/ 183,000 miles. As far as I know its the stock water pump and radiator. Running on the Green Juice cocktail. No water wetter. Haha.

I had a Motorad recently fail on me. The internal rubber gasket became dislodged and f'd the stats operation. Further, I never saw temps in the 186-188 range.

The Genuine 180 is the way to go.

You're not kidding! I'm very happy to have the cooling system lined out...at least for now

Next up: my front drive shaft. I climbed under and I do have the original driveshaft. I tried to check for play / slop and didn't notice any but heck if I know if that's even any indicator.

I can't get it rebuilt locally and don't really trust myself to do it - so looks like a new one will only be a bit more than shipping mine off to be rebuilt.

For the front shaft. I recommend Great Basin Rovers or Tom Woods.
