Default My Bumper Design (Still In Progress)

I just started learning this 3D rendering program, and I thought there was no better way to learn than to just to try drawing stuff for my D2, it definitely kept me motivated. Anywho, I've designed a few so far, but I like this one the most as of now. It's kind've a mix of a between few bumpers that I thought looked nice.

Its to scale, the base of it will only stick off the front grille about 6'', the bull bar wraps around to the blinkers, I put a light bar that comes out a little so the lights will be flush with the bull bar, and I'm probably forgetting something also...

I'm still going to add a winch tray, cut out the top a little to fit a winch, 2 support beams from left to right, and possibly some tabs for limb risers, any other recommendations would be cool too.

Tell me what you think.

Looks Good! Very similar to ARB's BullBar. Don't forget to add cutouts for the directionals and foglights (optional).

What CAD program are you working with?

Also the area or holes to mount/weld on recovery eyes.

I like where you're going with it, perhaps a few more angles tapering down would be nice.

Looks good Dane!. As a computer guy myself, it's always fun to see this stuff. It'll be really fun to see it after it's built on your LR.

Coors: I'm working with solidworks, it was a pita to get used to but I'm getting it now, my dad just downloaded it on my computer and told me to mess around with it lol.

ZgPhoto: Where do you think tapered angles would look good? And I totally forgot about there recovery points also :O

And thanks Supersport! It'll be cool, and I know it'll be near perfect too.

I've been wanting to do this too! I use SolidWorks on a daily basis at work, but I have not taken the time to measure the truck so I can start modelling my own bumper.

Once you get the SolidWorks program down and figure out the commands, it can be very easy to use. There are a TON of possiblities with SW and how far you can take things. I have been using it for about a year and a half and I've only scratched the surface on what this program is capable of.

I couldn't agree with you more, I've only been using solid works for about 1-2 weeks, I wouldn't have it if it weren't for my dad just installing 2013 premium when he needed to borrow my computer, I can say my computer is worth more than my car with this program on it! but I just have a lot of time in between my classes, so I sit in the library in between classes and just go at it. If I park close enough to the library entrance I can take dimensions while waiting for class. I get weird looks when I'm walking in and out of the library with an angle finder, square, and a tape measure.

UPDATED:
-I put 2 D-Ring recovery shackle mounts on the front that will fit a 3/4 shackle.
-Winch tray is incorporated now
-I added the cross members onto where the 1/4'' steel plate will mount to the bumper.

It's still not finished, the two thinner plates you see are going to have another plate from left to right which will then mount to another piece which is mounted to frame. Also the my mount plate isn't to scale yet, when I pull my bumper off, its off for good. So I'm waiting until I have everything lined up with laser cutting and shop time to pull it off.

Tell me what you think.
