Default My Disco overheating also!

My 2000 Disco2 165K, is overheating. It will idle for hours at normal Temp. If you drive and don’t push it, temp. Is ok but accelerate or climb a hill Temp. rises let idle and the Temp. comes back to normal. I have read all I can fine on the form and this is what I have done so far. new O2’s,MAF, Plugs, Wires, bleed air ,look for vacuum leeks and compression test (1,3 2 and 4 90 cold, 5,7 6and8 78 cold). No water in oil no steem out tail pipe. I have not found any one with pressure tester with screw on cap. Eletric fans are working Eng. fan seem to be working. Spin it by hand it will only turn about a half turn. HELP!!

OK so if you don't have a leak you need to start with the fundamentals.

1) Is your engine clean or covered in a thick coating of oil and grime?
2) When was the last time you flushed your coolant using and actual flushing product that will clean scale from you radiator?
3) Is the outside of you radiator clean?
4) Does your viscous fan lockup properly at temperature?
5) Is you water pump on the way out?

It seems whenever someone has a heating problem that is not related to coolant loss it is either a dirty radiator or bad water pump. Getting a infrared thermometer (HF has a cheap one) will help you see if your radiator is working properly.

Thank you for the info. The engine has some oil on the lower and back, but not a lot. I’ll flush the radiator today, it is clean on the out side. Is there a way to test the water pump or just replace it with that many miles?

If its the original pump at 165K then it is due for a change, $99 at AB.
x2 on the flush and clean the radiator out, fill up with fresh coolant and add a bottle of Water Wetter.
I removed my radiator after doing a chemical flush and gave it a good rinse out with a hose in both directions, several ***** of white waxy stuff come out.
