Default My Discovery II is making weird knocking noise

Just a couple weeks ago I was using my rover as my daily until I got a new car. Everything was going well and nothing sounded out of the ordinary. Out of no where once I bought a new car, my discovery started to make a loud weird knocking noise from the engine I believe. I turned it off immediately and never turned it back on again. I did remember smelling something burning when I turned it off when I heard it making the noise. I thought it could be the timing chain came lose but to be honest I’m stuck at this point and am trying to fix the problem ASAP

If you want someone to help, you need to provide as much detail as possible. For example, model year, mileage, recent maintenance history, oil level and color, any visible leaks, etc..

Sorry this is my first time on here but the year is a 2003 discovery s; mileage is 136,000; oil was at max on the dip and coolant level was normal, although the coolant is leaking a little but that is because there’s a small leak in the radiator.

I’m trying to upload a video of the noise but it’s not letting me, I think the file is too big

you have to make five posts before you are allowed to upload. It's in the terms of agreement.

Any lights on the dash before the knocking? Did the knocking noise change with engine speed? Knocking like a clock ticking or like a hammer on metal?

Listen to see if it starts cold and goes away when hot.

Grab a stethoscope from Autozone etc. and seem of you can narrow it down.

Could be mechanical, could be exhaust leak, could just be something loose.

Also, don't rule out professional help. You can get on Yelp and search for independent LR mechanics in your area and try to identify a good one. Have it towed to them and let them assess the situation.
