My door are always... Open?
A week ago I noticed that my horn beeps when I lock my truck. Then I noticed that the dome light was staying on. Then I noticed that my dome light would come on when I was driving, randomly. Now it only goes off when I turn it off or it times out. Sigh.
Everything is closed tight.
I see the switch under the hood on the driver's side, but the switch for the doors must be inside of them. I hate crap like this... Can someone give me a basic primer on the door switches so I can figure out what has gone wrong or what to look for?

Whoa. I have gremlins. It isn't a door switch. I don't know what it is but when I hit my brakes the dome light goes off. I'm betting something is touching back where the trailer wiring is (passenger tail light area)
My horn bleeps after the hood has been opened and I close it then lock the truck. The way I avoid this bleep is by closing the hood pressing the open button on the fob first then press the lock button on the fob, it never bleeds now. The worst time is late at night and the damn horn bleeped after I closed the hood after working on the truck ........ bet the very few neighbours loved me
You have gremlins too!
I'm sitting in the truck now. I disconnected the tail lights and the trailer light harness and, yup, the dome light still stays on until I press the brakes. Truly bizarre.

Well, I obviously have a short somewhere. Anyone have any ideas? I don't imagine that a normal Discovery turns on the dome light when a door is open and the brake is depressed... right???
I went around and lubricated all the electrical switches on the doors and that seemed to cure the problem for me. I also tied the hood switch down so it shouldn't cause any problems either.
Perhaps my memories are getting jumbled as I age, but I seem to remember reading somewhere, someplace, something about the rear window defroster being somehow tied to the brake lights: Defrost tab broken - brake lights don't work or something similar. Perhaps a wiring short in the rear door when brakes applied causes BCM to believe rear door has been opened?
I'm glad you said it first. I greased all of the door latches and that was precisely the problem.
