My Engine blew at the Dealer
Hello, I really need help! I towed my discovery II 2002 to the dealer for overheating. He changed my thermostat, valve covers and secondary emission pipe. They charged me $1500.00. 20 minutes out of the dealership it starts overheating again! I called the dealer and he towed it back. The next morning I get a call that my trucks engine was burnt badly when it overheated and it needs a new engine. The dealer is charging me $4750. for a new and engine and labor and parts. I don't have this kind of MONEY! My Question is what did they do and how did this happen?

The dealer should not be wanting to charge you for a new engine. After $1,500 spent your truck should never have overheated 20 min. after leaving the dealer. They should have checked everything when they were done with the repairs. Fight for a new engine and at the very least for your $1,500 dollars back. They, of course, are going to say that you brought it in with the engine blown, which is maybe possible, but then they should have never made the repairs in the first place. They have definitely acted wrong in one way or another.

DO NOT let them put a engine in your truck, DO NOT let them do any more work on your truck!
Mon call a lawyer and tell him what happened.
In the mean time tell the dealer that you are going to think about either putting a new engine in or selling the truck.
Basically right now you just want to stall them until you get a lawyer lined up.
DO NOT ADMIT TO ANY WRONG DOING ON YOUR PART UNTIL YOU HAVE SPOKEN TO A LAWYER!!

Speaking as A shop owner, Your getting the screws put to you.....They would have taken at least 20-30 minutes to properly bleed that badboy out (even with an airlift or similars system) , and then it should have gone for a test drive......If it overheated for you, it must have for them to. They either didn't bleed it right and it needs to be, or they cooked it through negligence, or you cooked it prior to getting it looked at and they thought they could soak you for 6k because the economy's bad and they are hurting for money. You need to get a lawyer, get everything they done and want to do on paper, get it the frigg away from them (when the lawyer says to) and have it towed to a reputable shop for a second opinion. Then proceed as necessary. Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Waiting for a lawyer to return my call!
I had this truck for less than a year. My truck has 130,000. Miles on it. It’s overheated once before going to the dealer. Here’s what I think happened, the dealer replace the secondary emissions pipe and holes and didn’t check the pressure. Well according to the dealer they took the truck on a test drive twice a ½ hour each time prior to releasing it to me. Alright guys the engine is gone and I will have to deal with this one way or another. I am very upset! Especially since Xmas is in less than 30days.
So my next question is a used engine is what I am thinking of doing. I found one with 110,000 k for
$1500.00 And one with 89,000 k for $2000.00 is there much of a difference between the two besides the cost?

I think you should wait until you hear from a lawyer before doing anything to that Disco. Are you sure your engine is toast? Did they say it dropped a liner or cracked block? If not, it can be fixed. Buying a used engine is risky because you may end up doing a head gasket job on it as well.

I would also wait, let the lawyer do his think and you may get a brand new engine for free.
If nothing else you dont pay for the "repairs" that they performed or the lawyer and then you buy a used engine.
And if YOU buy a used engine before you install it replace all the gaskets and seals on it.
But once again, let the lawyer do his thing.

Discoveries blow heads at around 150,000. Your car might have been a little early on that.. It seem weird that they would drive it and not check that out... The stuff that they put on your car seems a little unnecessary and fishy in my opinion... Good luck to you in getting your problem resolved!
