Default front drive shaft blew

so the front drive shaft went bye-bye, now my tranny when shifting from drive to park makes a nice loud grinding to gear sound, is the tranny gone or can it be rebuilt? i know that the tranny tends to go with the drive shaft but is it something easily repaired or should i drop and swap?

Too bad you didn't see all the hundreds of post regarding the replacement of the front u-joints. By the way, what year is it, have you already replaced the drive shaft with another one with grease fittings on all 3 u-joints?
As for the noise, you could have damaged either. Were either the tranny or t/case hit by the drive shaft, are either leaking oil?
If it is the tranny, someone on the forum can't tell you for sure what the noise is and if it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. There are many factors to look at.
I would suggest you take it to a tranny shop and see what they can tell you.

havent replaced it yet, i just pulled in from being out to sea, happened to my wife. i am going to buy one off ebay and get new ujoints and grease it all up. no fluid leaking, it is a 2002. yeah too bad i didnt see the posts until it was too late. i switched it in all the gears including 4wheel drive gears but only the tranny does it when drive to park and Rev to park. what are the general costs of getting one rebuilt, i was thinking of just buying a used one and seeing if a shop would put it in for me. little to cold out to be dong that in my driveway. lol.

Just so you don't sit at work and freak out....

Replace your driveshaft first, your tranny might be fine. The transfer case on your year does not lock the front and rear driveshafts together. If your front shaft is gone, all of the power from the tranny will just spin on the open shaft. The transfer case will act like an open differential. With a 2002, you can't lock the T-case, with earlier D2's you could manually lock it, but yours doesn't have that feature. Replace the shaft and then check it.

Still call Mike, he can walk you through a couple of things to check before you are able to replace the front shaft..
