Default My New Project Discovery

Just got my new baby running 4 days ago since I bought it last September. A companion to my 2003 Discovery. It was towed from CT to NJ and got stuck on the driveway for a while, wont start. Problem was bad MAF. Replaced it, now runs very well and smooth but completely failed NJ inspection. Got all codes from this forum and I'll try to fix them in time.

First stop, front drive shaft. I can hear it already. Exact noise before my 2003's failed. I was very lucky that time, the front shaft just dropped when I stopped an intersection and walking distance to Sears Hardware to get tools to remove it. Sound of a sticking brake but not brake at all.

HEHEHE! Its mutual, I punish the discos too! Never gave up on me. Haul tons of equipment up to the roof racks. Better than a VAN! lol! Plus I like the feel driving it. I still cant imagine the nice comments driving and old truck from every where I go. From gas stations, quick stops and clients. They just dont know how old the truck. LOL! Also true that people who know me always thought I drive a Range Rover. (no comment on that) This one is newer no TICKS yet, but more mileage than my old one. Im familiar with its headache so I got to know them already. Theres always this forum to guide us in so many ways, I get the same problem like yours, exactly!

I have an 02 Disco II and it used to tick. After the head gasket job, it stopped altogether. I also switched to Quaker State 10W 30 here in Texas. I have 165k and she is quiet as can be now.

That said, I'm chasing down a misfire and Saturday going to put (another) new set of Kingsborne 8mm wires, 2 new coils and hopefully that'll do it.

Nice find! I'd consider a rack on top, but that would cut down on mileage. Oh, wait..... LOL.

I'm running Rotella T6 5W40. No ticks. not funky noises. No knocks on start up (think that was the filter though).

Mileage......thats funny.
I tell my wife all the time, your truck may be newer and show better fuel economy. Mine will make it anywhere.

I plan to switch to the Rotella next.

The Disco IS my wife's. LOL. She bought it 13 years ago when she got a job promotion. Her baby all the way. I have a Hyundai Elantra. I have to make up excuses to drive the Disco, so lately there is ALWAYS something I need to drive around and look or listen for. :-)
