Nanocom?
I bought a project 2002 D2 the other week that needed new fobs. This $125 Launch scanner programmed 2 new fobs without issue and seems to be capable of many other things like ABS pump cycling, etc. although I haven't tried it yet. Mainly purchased it knowing it could program new keys. That being said, it's a bit fiddly and required programming each key twice before it prompted syncing with the BCM, there are several YouTube videos on the process.
Got these fobs and had a local locksmith copy the original key:

I was just looking at the Nanocom website and they list a whole bunch of models.
Would I need the Motronic V8 version or the Lite version? Is my 2000 V8 considered "Motronic"?
What advantage is the Motronic version considering it is twice as much money?

I have a 2002 V8 (Bosch) and having spoken to BBS, the item they said I required was the Nanocom Evolution for Motronic V8. Arrived in good order; very happy with it having used it pretty extensively if not for anything more complicated that faults, live values and bleeding the ABS. It's expensive, but it's way better than any of the generic FCRs I've had. (Now if only the GAP IID tool worked on the D2 - that thing is next level).

What is a GAP IID ?
The GAP IID tool is a Bluetooth OBD2 tool that works with an advanced app on a phone/tablet and which works only with LR with OBD2 compatibility. For me that’s my LR3 LR4, etc. Those vehicles have a ton of sensors, inputs and things to go inexplicably wrong for no reason whatsoever. It doesn’t work with the D2, sadly, but I’d have a newer LR it’s an absolute must.
Pagoda, what you're saying about the Gap Tool being incompatible with the D2 is probably correct (I have no experience with the Gap Tool), but Disco 2's are OBD2 compatible.
I've never heard of anyone regretting buying a Nanocom.
