Question Narrow tires for 16" steel wheels?

I have a 2004 SE that is still stock. I found a great deal on P38 steel wheels (16x7) and I'm looking at tires. Is 235/85/16 the narrowest tire that can run on these wheels? Will I be able to run them on stock suspension or do I wait until I install the OME shocks & springs (after the tax return)? I'm inclined towards the Duratrac in 235/85 but don't want to overlook anything. Thanks for your advice.

Thats close to a 32" tire. I doubt you'll be able to run that stock without rubbing unless you stay on pavement. Are you wanting the skinny for mud?

I'd go 3" springs and extended shocks(obviously you'll need extended brake lines and rerouting the abs lines) then run whichever tire you want.

Yes. You can definitely run 235/85 16 tires on stock suspension without rubbing. I have BFG AT KO's on my '99 D2 right now. The only time you'll have a problem is in pretty hairy situations off road...

Do you run these on the stock 8" wide alloys? When I was looking at getting this size, all of the charts showed 7 or 7.5 as the maximum width wheel for most of the tires I was looking at.

Tire mfg's provide the recommended rim width for each tire. Just look them on their web site.

Is this great deal a one time only deal, or is there someone selling these cheap? Most of the parts places want over $150 each.... and that's too rich for my blood.

The OEM sized tire for a DI (16x7 rim) is 235/70/16.

This was a one time deal. I've been searching CL and EBAY and they popped up locally on CL. Used but in decent shape. I'll clean them up and find some rubber for them, then proceed with the mods; OME, winch bumper, etc.

First, if you are going to be doing any moderate or above wheeling, your old suspension should be replaced, as for the 235's, they will work well of 16X7" wheels.
Good luck.
