Question Need All Ideas

Thanks for everyones help. Mike thanks for taking the phone calls and sounding this thing out.

2003 bought not running, oil pump seized, breaking timing gears. Replaced, timing gears, chain, cover, oil pump.

Now when I crank it, the engine mechanically sounds great, it runs for 2 seconds then shuts off. If I turn the key off and back it will do this all day long. If after it shuts off I do not turn the key back to off and crank it again it will not run for the seconds.

I am going to test the fuel pump voltage at the pump to see if the power is their after initial prime. (Thanks Mike).

The fuel pump was replaced by a dealer before purchase, I also replced the crank position sensor. I did test the sensor before and thought I did it right and it failed. So I will also play with that a litte and check the wiring to see if it is an open circuit.

Any other ideas, the closest dealer to me is a 2 hour tow.

The only thing that comes to mind is fuel delivery. I had an 04' Touareg, and had the same issue. I know they are two totally different vehicles, but I had the same problem. The Touareg comes with two fuel pumps, one to prime before you start it, and the other ran as the main pump while driving. When started, it would run for about 8 seconds, then die. The main fuel pump had failed.I could start it all day, but it wouldn't stay on because of this. I think you're headed in the right direction by checking the voltage on the pump to see if it's operating correctly, then I'd go with fuel pump fuses or relays and see what you come up with. Good luck with everything, hope it all comes out well

I think you smart smart to rule out the pump first. Have you pressed the shraeder valve to see if you have fuel pressure when it does not want to start when cranking? Obviously need a second set of hands.

On the the fuel rail, passenger side I believe. I believe you just poke it and if you have fuel pressure gas will squirt across your garage, don't smoke while doing this. Search for Schraeder valve in the rave cd.

Since we have no idea what Mike suggested, why would we spend time with any suggestions you may already have had? Just keep calling him back until you get it sorted.

I agree.
We have no idea what has already been discussed, so why waste our time giving you idea's that may have already been talked over and tried?

We are not trying to be jerks...but talking on the phone only helps one person.

I put "Thanks Mike" after what he suggested. Basically described the problem as above and that is what we came up with. I have to take time off from work to go to my friends shop that is at to work on it while he is there. So, I wanted to get any other suggestions/thoughts.

That is about it. I am very mechanical and have a great mechanic to help out, he does not work on Land Rovers.

Have you tried spraying starting fluid into the intake tubing at the filter box and then running the engine on starter fluid?
If it will run all day on starting fluid then I would say it is a fuel delivery problem.

or just start it, let it run until it dies, then check the fuel rail for pressure once it dies, with the key still on. I am thinking fuel delivery, you aren't getting past the initial prime.
