Question Need a Brake Job soon.. Should I upgrade? or Keep Stock?

I have some scrubbing in the rear rotors so I will have to have them turned...

But my truck's braking is as bad as Fred Flinstones foot brakes!! I have nearly crashed even yesterday when cars stop quickly!! I stand on them praying for the best!!

Should I, can I, and what brands???

Drilled vs. Standard??

Autozone pads vs. British Atlantic's high end??

Do cross drilled rotors create a vibration??

I need muuuuuch better brake performance.... :-(

LRNA does not recommend cutting rotors if they are warp or glazed replace them.
I do not see in your bio what your driving and how many miles you have,
all i can tell you is what i did to improve my braking greatly:
Akebono euro ceramic pads (approx. $80 a set)
stainless steel brake lines (approx. $120)
Drilled & slotted rotors (approx. $150)
complete brake system flush ($25)

these are the rotors i used you can order them without pads and use the akebono's or use they pads [FRONT+REAR] 4 ELINE OE FACTORY REPLACEMENT BRAKE ROTORS + 8 CERAMIC PADS | eBay

Made a world of difference, were the d& s rotor over kill, maybe but i dont want brake fad with a 5ooolb truck

And make sure you do the brake job, other wise you will pay $350 plus in labor.

Slow down, increase your following distance, you are not driving a sports car.
Drilled and slotted rotors will eat brake pads for lunch.
Ceramic brake pads will not create dust.
Brakes is brakes, buy whatever you can afford.
I use AutoZone pads, OEM rotors and I stop just fine.
But then again I dont tailgate or drive like a mad man and I pay attention to whats going on around me and anticipate sudden stops.

I put Ceramic pads on our Discovery I and it squeals like a pig.
I mean really really bad.
I took it apart a few times and tried the CRC orange stop squeal stuff on the backs of the pads. NO good.

Finally took the Discovery I to an indy shop and they put some soft of OEM pads on it.
NO more squeal.

Not sure what the Discovery II has on it for brakes. Previous owner put those on.
Squeals sometimes..

All I know is, I have had a maybe 4 situations where I am standing on my brakes on a sudden stop around the Charlotte Metro area where "fit hits the shan" and I have been feared of slamming into people.. these brakes blow!!

I have built and worked on FJ-40's, CJ's all models, Rovers Defender 90's and 110's and Discovery's....

Why I asked, is will slotted/drilled help?? or will they just create a vibration and no new stopping power??

drilled and slotted rotors do not cause vibration, and they do not eat qualitiy brake pads.
If you buy a cheap set of drilled rotor that are not counter sunk and throw $25.00 pads on them, YES they will eat them like a cheese grater.
Good is not cheap and cheap is not good.

Any cheap set of pads, even ceramics will squeak. Always buy the best quality pads, especially for D2's so the 3 amigos don't come and visit you.
As for the rotor, Slotted and drilled rotors, especially DBA's will last longer and stop faster, and they do not eat pads faster as already mentioned, my last set of kevlar pads from the UK last up to the 80,000 mile mark. I now run Akebono pads on the same old DBA's.
