Default In need of enlightenment

My '99 Disco II with 130k has ABS, TC, and hill descent indicators all lit up on my dash. Are these the dreaded 3 amigos? I've been fishing around here and DiscoMike my brakes are squeaking ( FYI, all 4 were replaced back in July ). Might this be as simple as a shuttle valve fault? Thanks everybody in advance. Ciao - RR.

Yes to the amigos question. I would hope the cause is as simple as the squeaky brakes. Anything else might require a great deal of money to resolve for good.

Mike could probably tell you a way to pin down the problem, but you're probably going to need to have the codes read to know for sure.

The good news is that there's a new gizmo called the ABS Amigo that can be had for $200. It'll probably pay for itself after 2-3 uses. Not plugging it, but it looks like I need one, myself.

It can be many things:

ABS Module
Shuttle valve
Bad Sensor
Bad Hub
Squeaky Brakes (they have to be really bad)
Dirty Brakes (they have to be be really dirty)
Amongst others...

There are many solutions to getting your codes read, dealership will be around $100, indy shop with an ABS scanner, Hawkeye scanner $650, ABS Amigo $200.

Brake squeak is about the biggest activator of the 3 guys. Go throw a panic stop from 30 MPH on a loose surface road and see if you can feel the ABS pulsate thru the brake pedal, then get back to us.

Thats good, that means your module is not the cause.
So what brand of pads did you install, who did you buy them from and was any sound deadening spray used?

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know the brand, my mechanic( at the time )told me he had never had any complaints regarding the particular brand he used. I do know they were ceramic. As for the spray, it's not on the receipt and he didn't mention it to me. Any advice? Thanks - RR.

Put some sound deadening goop on the back of your pads then go get the codes read and cleared to see exactly what the issue is.

I agree, if the sound deadening spray will stop the squeaks, you should be able to have the codes cleared. On the slight chance they won't then you need to see if your mechanic can get these warrantied and you a better set of pads.
