Default Need Help - Click, Won't Crank, Won't Jump Start

I backed the truck onto ramps to check the rear diff and after I was done the truck wouldn't start. When I turn the key I'd hear one click but it doesn't crank. Tried jump starting - no luck. What seems to be the issue? 85k miles. Thanks for your input in advance.

Try this.
1) wind up your windows if they are down.
2) close all doors
3) lock - using remote
4) wait a minute
5) unlock drivers door using key in door (not remote button)
6) start it up!

I know it sounds crazy but it worked for me this morning (see week 2 post coming soon...)

You shouldnt check any fluids with the rig on ramps...needs to be level. I agree with Dusty, check your battery connections. Simple stuff first. If that doesnt work, then roll up your windows, then roll them down, do the happy dance, then start it up. Always works!!

Take a hammer, or anything that will reach the starter from underneath the rig, and bang on the starter motor a good few times and then see if it will start. If it starts, then you need a new starter, or your connection at the starter is loose or something. Thats an old timers trick if you have a "clicking" starter.

Motorhead1, or anyone really - I have a silly question for you.

When my 03 didn't start, as part of my diagnostics I turned the lights on and then turned the key but they did not dim at all. If the starter motor has a bad spot on the armature wouldn't this still cause a draw on the battery?

Tried hitting the starter. Still just clicks but no crank.

Is the click definitely the starter solonoid?

May need a second person to check, but 12v is defo going to the starter on turn of the key?

I'd remove starter contacts, clean, refit. Even if they look good. The starter circuit is really basic. Turn the key, flick the solonoid, starter spins. If that's not happening it's only one of a few things that's wrong.

If the starter is really bad, hitting it won't help. But that usually happens over time. Ie you need bigger and bigger hammers to free it.

Is it the starter that is clicking? If it is, pull it out, and replace.
