Default need help pricing my vehicle for possible sell

My job moved a couple of years back and the gas costs are starting to really hurt. I have my house for sale but if the house does not sell in a reasonable amount of time I will have to figure out other ways to reduce my costs.

This probably means I will have to sell the rover. Kind of sucks as I have corrected most all of the issues. But $688 a month in gas leaves me few options.

I have one more issue I would have to correct and that is my gross evap leak. I have not had any luck so far with smoke testing but I am going to take it to a new place next week to see if they can find the leak. The rover dealership and a local mecahnic have bothed failed to find a leak so far. Actually we had a few really cold weeks a while back and the code cleared until it got warm again.

So far I have:

1. Replaced the radiator
2. Replaced the thermastat
3. Replaced the expansion tank
4. New head gaskets
5. New plugs and wires about a two months ago
6. New belt about a two months ago
7. New brake pads and rotars around 4 months ago
8. New Terra grapplers around 1 month ago
9. Rebuilt the front drive shaft with geasable u joints about 3 weeks ago
10. New throttle body heater plate and gasket
11. New right front window regulator
12. Replaced various hoses and tubes.

The only other thing I can think of is the header liner is starting to droop. So the gross evap and headliner. I probably will not do the headliner though.

If I fix the gross evap leak about what price??

Oklahoma City Oklahoma, 2002 se7 with 94000 miles. Black with tan.

I was thinking around 6 thousand. What is the best way to test your local market. I did a quick search online but did not find much. I checked NADA etc...

Mmm I think a smart guy thats wants a land rover and has done his research may buy that for $6,000. However there are 2003's and 2004's that are getting close to $6,000 or less now days. I'd say $5,500 maybe 6 since it's an SE7.

I think I remember reading a about a guy on the forum who had the same code and it turned out that the tubing that you pour your gas in was warped and kept throwing the code. I know that sounds vague as hell but I swear I read it under a search on the forum.

None of this makes the truck worth any more. It just puts it into "fair" condition rather than "poor" or "not running." While I understand that you probably did a lot of it recently, that's just because the vehicle was in serious maintenance debt to begin with.

A properly running SE7 ought to get $6k. The headliner would be a huge problem for me (appearances and first impressions are important when selling), but can be properly fixed for a few hundred dollars.

But also remember why you are selling it (gas prices) and understand that lots of other people are doing the same with gas guzzlers. The market is shrinking at this time of year, and will pic up again when winter is on its way.

Check CL to get some idea what local prices are.
You are most probably better off keeping the truck and buying a beater sedan that will pay for itself by the savings at the gas pump.

I agree -- if you can wait and find the "right" buyer, $5-6K sounds about right (assuming no codes). This buyer would be someone who has researched Land Rovers, knows about the driveshaft issue, wear-and-tear, etc. and will appreciate the work you've put into yours.

Figure about $2K less if you're selling it to someone who doesn't know much about LRs except that they're cool. They won't appreciate/understand why what you've done is important. We almost traded ours in a year ago for something more reliable, but the thing that was killing me was that after fixing everything (fingers crossed) on it, I knew the new owner would drive it for 1-2 years without any problems benefiting from all my hard work.

If you have the garage/driveway space, you might just want to pick up a beater like a 90 Civic, Escort, etc. to use for your commute. Figure something sub-$1000 would pay for itself within a month or two at your gas prices. You could keep your LR for fun days.

Good luck,

Yeah man keep it, store it in the garage, and buy a $800 beater for gas commuting (old honda civic or something). Why sell it when you put all that love and time ($) into it.

If you sell it, no less than 6.5k man. Those Terra grapplers are NOT cheap, and no one has mentioned that. And 1 month ago = new. That's 1k right there. Those are some nice *** tires....

I drop my daughter off at school on my way to work. So I am not sure a beater is what I want to do.

I have created a spread sheet to test the various scenerios and determin how much I can afford to spend on a car if I do not sell the rover and park it and if I trade in the rover and or sell the rover. Assuming a depenable/safe car is the requirment.

So now I am mulling over the choices. I am not at the point of having to do it yet and hopefully will sell the house before I have to but I just want to have plan b all settled.

I found some local rovers and now feel that I would have to fix both the header and gross evap. If I do not I would not get squat.

Anyone have a recommendation for a interior repair shop in the okc area?

I kind of remember that as well. I will look for that again as well. I also have trouble filling up. The pumps are always acting like I am full even when I am not. Not sue if that coudl be related.

Yeah I'm like 80% sure it's related. I researched the forum the other week when I threw a code but I luckily for me it was just a loose gas cap.
