Need Help - (sick 95 disco) - Colorado
Ok - I posted several months back about my green 95 disco that is running rough (misfires under load)... I tested all of the things I could with my limited skills (Fuel Pressure, Timing). It has fairly new magnecors and bosch platinum plugs, new 02 sensors, air filter, fuel pump and fuel filter.. (all within the last 6k)
So about a month ago I took it to a local general repair shop up here in Fort Collins (Houska) that has a decent reputation, but they are not LR mechanics specifically. There conclusion is that the problem is something "internal, inside the engine" and they asked if I wanted them to proceed with diagnostics.. I declined, because I would rather have a rover specialist look at it....
Now I need to figure out what to do. I am inclined to tow it down to JC's rover in Denver, but wanted to see what you would do....
Have I missed anything in troubleshooting this? The problem started with it occasionally misfiring (usually when it was cold), it will Idle just fun (at least I can't detect the misfire at idle). But give it anything and it will start to misfire.....
HELP!!!

Have you replaced your VSS (vehicle speed sensor)?
It is the speed limiter for your truck, when it senses that you are going to fast it cuts injectors to slow you down, when it fails it will do this at any speed, usually under load, like climbing a hill or taking off from a dead stop.
If that is not it then look into a severe case of engine sludge causing the vales to stick or excessive carbon build up on the exhaust valves again causing them to stick.
They did not start using the "carbon cutter" valves until 1996.

VSS - the truck will misfire even when not driving (if I rev the engine in park).
Your right I haven't replaced the cap and rotor, but correct me if I am wrong, I doubt that would cause that large of a problem.
I think taking it down to JC rover will probably be the best option (unless someone can suggest a better place in Colorado...)
thanks everyone.. I just want to get my rover back on the road. It has been sitting for far too long.

My BMW was running so bad it would not even get up to speed, would shake and all kinds of stuff. Running so bad i thought engine was blown or something serious. Ending up just being the coil packs and spark plugs. I would check over all the ignition stuff first.

2X on the cap and rotor.............all the spark is controlled there.....the best plugs and wires wont spark unless they get the signal. just went through this with my wifs ride.....was running fine, parked it in the garage, no start the next morning......long story short.....cap and rotor fixed the problem
